About Me

My photo
I saw active service in conventional, clandestine and covert units of the South African Defence Force. I was the founder of the Private Military Company (PMC) Executive Outcomes in 1989 and its chairman until I left in 1997. Until its closure in 1998, EO operated primarily in Africa helping African governments that had been abandoned by the West and were facing threats from insurgencies, terrorism and organised crime. EO also operated in South America and the Far East. I believe that only Africans (Black and White) can truly solve Africa’s problems. I was appointed Chairman of STTEP International in 2009 and also lecture at military colleges and universities in Africa on defence, intelligence and security issues. Prior to the STTEP International appointment, I served as an independent politico-military advisor to several African governments. Until recently, I was a contributing editor to The Counter Terrorist magazine. All comments in line with the topics on this blog are welcome. As I consider this to be a serious look at military and security matters, foul language and political or religious debates will not be entertained on this blog.

COMPOSITE WARFARE: AN UPDATE

My apologies to everyone who has tried to order my upcoming book titled ‘Composite Warfare: The conduct of successful ground force operations in Africa’.
Due to numerous technical issues I mentioned on a previous blog posting, the book is finally nearing publication. I can, however, not give an exact publication date at this stage.
Nevertheless, recent correspondence from the publisher indicated that once the typesetting and layout is complete it will be sent to me for final proofing i.e. for review and any corrections. Thereafter it will go to print.
If all goes well, the publisher is looking at releasing the book in August.
The cover of the book has also undergone a change to be in line with the aim of the book ie a book on how African armies can prepare themselves to counter armed threats by conventional and unconventional forces be they hostile armies, armed anti-government forces or proxy forces.
Again, please accept my sincerest apologies for the delay.

Hello Eeben,

I'm afraid I have hardly visited the blog in a long time (2011 was the last time I commented if I remember correctly), so I was very glad to finally return only to hear you have another book scheduled for release. It sounds like a very interesting topic, and one which I'm sure, in my corner of the world at least, few if any publications exist, so rest assured I will seek it out once it's available.

I was sorry to read in an older post that you've had some health issues recently - I hope you are well, and I'll try my best to return more frequently now and hopefully contribute to some of the discussions if I feel I have anything to add. In the meantime I have some serious reading to do to catch up since my last stint of following your blogging!

All the best,
Alex

Eeben, thank you for the update. That's unfortunate news.

I found the listing on Amazon's US site with the new cover and Jan. 2017 release date (https://www.amazon.com/Composite-Warfare-Conduct-Successful-Operations/dp/1928211763/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470062227&sr=8-1&keywords=composite+warfare). However, are there plans for a Kindle/e-Book version?

Thanks!

Dear Sir,

I am looking for a way to purchase your book 'Executive Outcomes: Againt All Odds'. So far the only source where I can do so is on Amazon, which is charging around $100 for second hand sources. Are there any online distributors you can recommend?

Thanks and Best Regards,
Toby

Welcome back Alex!
I have completed reading the page proofs and these have been resent to the publisher. Although I am not sure of when it will be out for sale, I am told it will be quite soon.
My health issues were mainly related to quitting cigarettes. I took quite a knock but am fine and fit now, thank you for asking.
Rgds,
Eeben

No, not really Orlando.
It was more a problem of people switching chairs and companies that resulted in the situation.

Thanks for your interest MrButtons9 and I am sorry it has resulted in such a late publication. I am hopeful it will be out before the date given by Amazon as I am told the publisher is keen to get it out.
I am not sure if there are plans for a Kindle or e-book version. I suspect that is for the publisher to decide and depending on the sale of the book.
Rgds,
Eeben

Hi Toby,
Thanks for your interest in the Executive Outcomes book.
As far as I am aware, it is now out of print and not available at present. I am awaiting news of the next reprint but it is already (including the hard cover editions) past its sixth reprint. As and when it is republished, I shall let you know via the blog.
Rgds,
Eeben
